When you reflect on what’s really important to you, what is it that gives you a genuine sense of accomplishment and fulfilment at the end of the day?
I sometimes think I have wasted the day unless I finish it exhausted and surrounded by perfectly crafted documents, creative masterpieces or correctly assembled flat-pack furniture.
I know I’m too hard on myself and I guess you are too?
Even without actively constructing items, there are at least 10,000 steps to be taken or some important dog walking schedules or list making capabilities that need to be played our before this or that deadline that has to be recorded, monitored, photographed and shared, in triplicate; the mental and physical demands we often load upon ourselves, day in and day out, can prove incredibly burdensome.
Well not today they don’t.
You can do anything also translates to, You don’t have to do anything.
Not doing anything is just as good as doing something; in fact it is better; nothing is something, anything is something and something is anything; and you don’t need me to tell you that, on this day of ALL DAYS.
Christmas Eve was always my favourite day of the year, and this year should be no different. Whatever you are up to right now, make the very most of this moment, it won’t come back again for a year.

You can do anything….
Listening to yourself
Sitting quietly and remembering
Playing with your pets
Arranging the presents under the tree
Working right up the afternoon bell
Driving home for the holiday
Relaxing with family and friends
Eating and drinking your favourite things
Preparing the vegetables, lighting the candles
Giving and receiving, sharing and caring for one another
Looking after those less fortunate, remembering those not here anymore
Buying all the stuff you don’t really need
Settling down with TV Choice magazine ready for 14 days of uninterrupted soaps
Walking in your favourite field but not counting the steps
Sitting on the sofa that you built, hoping it will take the strain.
Just sitting and reflecting, listening to some music or just to your own mind ticking…
Or just doing nothing.
Nothing at all.
Enjoy the holiday, and If you do need a coffee table, occasional chair, floor lamp, foot stool, armchair, wicker basket, or anything else; then please drop me a note (I won’t be making any furniture in 2025)
Next Week: Happy New Cruise
Amsterdam here we come….
Well, I managed to do the only thing that counts on Christmas Eve in our household. Did some cooking prep for tomorrow while listening to the Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols from King's College Cambridge. Result! Multi-tasking as well!
